Project Description

This project was brought to us by a client who was looking to make the ski and snowboard building process automated and easier for the students of Vermont Tech. To do this we chose to impliment a CNC (computer numeric control) machine that is able to route out products that are created in 3-D modeling software such as SolidWorks. The client came to use wanting a machine that was able to route in 3 dimensions so that he would be able to make the cores as well as the molds that are used in the pressing process. Our tolerance was to be within 2mm.

Backgroud Information

The photo above is a SolidWorks model of an actual ski core that would come off of this CNC machine. As you can see in this drawing it is important that the machine is accurate within 2mm because of the thickness of the ski tips.

Below is a picture of a mold that is used in the pressing process of skis and snowboards. This is an additional item that could be routed using this CNC machine.
